Abstract
The response of glass to focused femtosecond (fs) laser pulses during waveguide fabrication in a commercial sodium phosphate glass (Schott IOG-1) was reported. The precise location of the waveguides in IOG-1 glass depended on the relative tilt of the fs laser beam. For IOG-1 phosphate glass the data suggested that the fs laser beam induced a modified region in the focal region that had a lower density and refractive index than the initial glass.
