Gene therapy is currently being evaluated for the treatment of many disorders, including cancer, infection, and diseases of the cardiovascular and the central nervous' system. This article summarizes key concepts and recent advances of gene therapy and its applications to otolaryngology - head and neck surgery. In particular, this review examines the promise of gene therapy in alleviating hearing disorders and treatment of head and neck cancers.
