Abstract
The reaction between astatine, an artificially produced halogen, and the l-amino acid tyrosine, has been investigated. Results of kinetic analyses confirm an electrophilic mechanism for astatotyrosine production, similar to that proposed for iodotyrosine. Studies on the stability of the resulting compound are presented with special reference to the potential in vivo uses for the alpha-emitting isotope 211At, attached to the tyrosine component of biologically active proteins.
