Abstract

Limitations to the utility of laser technology include portability, maintenance, and the availability of effective and less costly alternatives. Promising area of development include the use of PDT for Barrett's esophagus, laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy for the detection of dyplasia and malignancy, and automatic stone recognition systems for lithotripsy.
