Prepupal regulation of juvenile hormone esterase through direct induction by juvenile hormone

Abstract

The regulation of the prepupal peak of juvenile hormorne esterase activity was investigated and found to be directly induced by juvenile hormone. Allatectomy and reimplanation as well as juvenile hormone application experiments all indicated that the appearance of prepupal juvenile hormone esterase activity was in response to a prepupal burst of juvenile hormone. Implantation experiments indicated that the effect of juvenile hormone is not mediated through the isolated brain or subesophageal ganglion.
