Abstract

Local circuitry within hippocampal formation includes, but is not confined to, feedback inhibition mediated via inhibitory basket interneurons. Local interactions are not restricted to inhibitory chemical synapses, but may encompass additional means of neuronal interaction. New techniques and interdisciplinary studies have revealed a richness and complexity of electrophysiological, morphological, and pharmacological features even within a 'simple' cortical structure such as the hippocampus.
