Abstract

The kinetics of metalloporphyrin chemisorption onto monolayer-confined ligands, as well as the rate of subsequent metalloporphyrin distal ligand exchange were discussed. It was observed that metalloporphyrins can bind a surface-confined isonicotinate ligand via axial ligand exchange. It was found that on coordination to the surface, the distal axial ligand can be exchanged at a rate similar to that of chemisorption. The results present insight into the rational design of surface attachment schemes involving ligand exchange.
