Abstract
The fragmentation behavior of oligosaccharides was analyzed using infrared multiphonon dissociation (IRMPD) Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS). The IRMPD unit was implemented on commercial FTMS instrument which was equipped with external MALDI source and 4.7 Tesla superconducting magnet. The degree of fragmentation was controlled by changing length of IR laser irradiating time with fixed laser power. IRPMD generated fragments through lowest energy pathway and IR laser irradiation was applied to permethylated maltohexoses which were coordinated with alkaline metal ions.
