Abstract

The success of lung transplantation depends on healing of the bronchial anastomosis. The site of bronchial anastomosis can be visualized by direct bronchoscopy or, more recently, by thin-slice computer tomography. Dedicated electronic postprocessing algorithms allow for an anatomic overview of the anastomotic site and reconstruction of an endoluminal view, also called virtual bronchoscopy. This technique allows for early and noninvasive identification of anastomotic irregularities and their timely treatment.
