Abstract
The manifestation of a hemangiopericytoma as a cardiac tumor is rare. We describe the case of a 63-year-old patient in whom a cardiac hemangiopericytoma proved to be the source of pulmonary metastases. After resection of the metastasis, a subsequent search for the primary tumor was unsuccessful. Two years later, the same patient presented with severe cardiac insufficiency as a consequence of subtotal obstruction of the right ventricle by a now vastly enlarged primary hemangiopericytoma. Following the complete macroscopic resection of the tumor, adequate cardiac sufficiency was attained one year after the procedure and the patient remains healthy. We present an overview of all published cases to date. In 7 out of 8 cases the site of occurrence of the primary cardiac tumor was the right side of the heart.
