Geometrical factors in stabilizing zwitterions in gas-phase cyclodextrin cavities

Abstract

The geometrical factors in stabilization of zwitterions in gas-phase cyclodextrin (CD) was analyzed. For the experiments CD and amino acids were mixed in solutions, and performed on the fourier transform mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ionization source.It was found that the amino acids that interact with lower rim producs trimer complexes. The result states that the underivatised maltoheptaose and 2-hydroxyl propyl β CD supports the notion that simultaneous interactions with the lower rim of the CD was important for stabilizing the zwitterions.
