Abstract
Point-of-care testing for cardiac injury markers has unique attributes affording favorable comparison with performance of the clinical laboratory. Numerous studies have confirmed the accuracy, rapidity, and potential cost savings of this readily applicable bedside method that favor its use for early identification of both high-risk patients with ACS and low-risk patients with chest pain who are suitable for early discharge. The economic impact of point-of-care testing requires consideration of its effect on the overall cost of patient care.
