Abstract
This article provides an overview of the major types of aphasias, or language disorders, which can occur after injury to the brain. Seven forms of aphasia resulting from vascular disease and three types of primary progressive aphasias arising from neurodegenerative disease are described. Behavioral deficits and regions of the brain associated with each form of aphasia are also presented.
