This paper presents an analysis of important, often competing, variables in an optical to electrical (O-E) converter unit. One result describes the nonlinear dependency of output voltage as a function of capacitor load. Also the charging time as a function of photo-current, cell saturation current, and load capacitor is illustrated. A particular system, the optically pulsed powered converter unit, is detailed as a design example.
